Burgenwanderung Eppan - Schloss Boymont 2

Three Castles Hike, Missian

The Eppan Castle Trail in Missian, South Tyrol, leads through the Überetsch area, one of the regions in Europe with the highest density of castles. This popular hike passes by three historic castles and also offers the chance to visit them.

From the parking lot in Missian, just below the church, follow the paved road to the junction at the fire station. From there, turn left and follow the signs to the “Eppan Castle Circuit.” After about 25 minutes, you reach the romantic Castle Hotel Korb, surrounded by vineyards and orchards, offering a breathtaking view over the Adige Valley, all the way to Bolzano and the Sciliar. After passing Castle Korb, continue for about 300 meters, then turn left and follow the signs for the Castle Trail. The path ascends through a shady deciduous forest to Boymont Castle, a High Medieval ruin that can be visited and houses a rustic tavern in its courtyard.

From Boymont Castle, retrace part of the path before turning left onto a trail that first ascends gently and then continues level through the forest to Hocheppan Castle. A staircase leads down into a gorge, and on the opposite side, the path climbs steeply in places up to the castle.

To conclude, the route follows the wide gravel road no. 12 downhill to a parking area. From there, continue for about 200 meters along the paved road, then turn left and walk through the vineyards back to Missian along trail no. 13.

This is a scenic and pleasant hike for the whole family. Please note that it can get very hot in the summer.
